    Keith is the founding Director of Remote Safety Solutions and has a diverse background, with an adventure background derived from working as a guide in Australia and overseas he has dealt with a range of remote incidents within his own adventures. Keith's emergency management and first aid skills are derived from working as Ski Patroller and Rescue Air Crewman for a number of rescue and emergency services. When Keiths not in the office he's on the road traveling with his team to some of Australias most remote and isolated communities delivering a range of courses to better prepare people for any unforeseen incidents they may encounter.

Remote Safety Solutions is an industry leader in scenario-based learning, our courses are designed to provide the learner with the required skills, knowledge and visual readiness to respond to a range of emergencies that may occur in the learner’s personal life and or on the job. ABOUT REMOTE SAFETY SOLUTIONS

RSS is not your normal first aid training provider, there is no powerpoint and there are no boring presentations! RSS believes in immersion training which means learners be getting hands-on treating lifelike injuries which we know aids in the delivery and retention of vital lifesaving skills and knowledge. This method also ensures that learners with L&N issues are not lost in the course and critical life-saving skills are obtained.

During the course your highly trained and industry experienced trainer will utilise a bush setting as their classroom, this means that learners will be taught to deal with and respond to a number of realistic first aid emergencies which aids in the knowledge and skills development but also prepare you for any unforeseen incident that may occur. Conducting this type of training in the environments you work also aids in highlighting any issues that may present themselves in such incidents allowing you to prepare and adjust as required. Its also allows you to see and understand issues associated with communicating and managing the injured and the course scenarios allow you to also test and or create Emergency Action Plans for your use.
RSS’s Remote Area First Aid Training provides learners with the required, skills and knowledge to provide advanced first aid to a casualty in remote or isolated environments for extended periods of time until medical assistance arrives or evacuation occurs.

During this course is designed and contextualised Adventure Bike Riders, learners will take part in and learn how to respond to a range ofscenarios and incidents such as;

  • multiple injuries from high speed bike accident
  • multiple riders injuired from road accident – multiple injuries
  • ampution of limb(s)
  • spinal injury from fall while riding
  • crush injury from falling bike – internal and external bleeding
  • fire pit incident – multiple limbs burnt
  • allergic reaction – reaction to a bee sting
  • envenomation – snake bite
  • diabetic with head injury – rockfall
  • near-drowning
  • fractured leg – low speed fall
  • how to identify when person is sick and needs to be evacuated
  • identification of strokes and heart attack
  • calling for help in remote locations (sat phone, PLBs, Trackers, UHF, ground signalling)
  • setting up for arriving medical assistance
  • moving the injured
  • Identifying, monitoring and managing shock
  • chemical-related emergency

Resources that will be available for this course;

  • Adult and infant resuscitation manikins in line with ARC guidelines for the purpose of assessment of CPR procedures
  • Workplace first aid kit suitable for remote locations with the inclusions of:
    • Adrenaline autoinjector training device
    • AED training device
    • Placebo bronchodilator and spacer device
    • Roller bandages and triangular bandages
    • Wound dressings
    • Thermometer
  • RSS incident report forms
  • Space Blankets
  • Insulating equipment (sleeping bags, tarps and foam sleeping mats)

DURATION

The standard RSS Remote Area First Aid Course includes 30 hours of face to face learning over 3 days including a 4 hour night scenario (night session to be run on day 2 of the course).

VENUE

Our open courses are run in Canoelands NSW, with extensive bush access, comfortable training room, kitchen and onsite camping available for those wishing to stay overnight. (learners to provide own meals).

COURSE ASSESSMENT

This course is 90% practical; learners will be assessed via the pre-course learning and via the practical scenarios throughout the duration of the course. The following assessment tasks are required for this course:

  • 8 written questions
  • 50 Multiple choice questions
  • Simulated emergency scenario’s
